SOUND:
Sound in Assetto Corsa has been vastly improved since netKar Pro, even if the audio engine is basically the same.
Still some features missing, so let's start to point out what you will NOT find in Assetto Corsa Tech Preview:
- Reverberation
- Audio reflections
- Any kind of audio filters or compressors
5.1 speakers configurations will notice that external views have "too much positional" sound. For example, in the bonnet cam you'll hear the engine behind you only, in chase cam you'll hear the engine from your central speaker only, and so on. We'll working on it but the priority are internal sounds so far. Indeed, surround configuration in cockpit view works like a charm.
FAQ
Q - I can't hear anything!
A1 - Please turn on your speakers;
A2 - Please turn up your volume;
A3 - Please check your default output device in windows audio preferences.
Q - I hear a weird and sudden sound when I select "Restart session" or "back to pits"
A - Known issue on some configurations, please send us your log and we will try to nail it.
Q - Sometimes when I pinch a curb, I hear a "click" sound coming from my speakers/headphone
A - Know issue. It's related to sample attack/decay time that still needs some finetuning.
Q - Tyre skid sound is too low for my tastes. I love the squealing sound!
A - Default skid volume is set to 70% (0.7 in the Audio Options menu). You can adjust the volume according to your tastes.
Q - I can't find the engine volume in the options!
A - It's as designed. You can use the Master Volume that manage the overall AC volume.
Q - With my 5.1 surround system, my subwoofer won't work!
A1 - If your surround system is connected in analog mode, please make sure it can handle a crossover for subwoofer. If not, you should check that your sound card is able to manage a bass redirection (most recent Realtek integrated sound cards, Asus Xonar, Creative ones do the job);
A2 - If you want to use spdif connection, you NEED a DTS/DD encoding before transport the audio stream to your external amplifier/speakers system. For example, Creative X-fi uses two softwares, called "Dolby Digital Live" and "DTS Connect" that do the job. In this case the compression is lossy, but you won't notice the difference.
Q - In 5.1 configuration, I hear the wind coming from the central speaker only.
A - It's as designed.
Q - Sometimes, especially on the backstraight and on road bumps, I hear the car making strange and worrying squeaking sounds...
A - It's the bodywork baby!
